April 19, 2012 Award winner in the category “Charity”
Award winner: GRAFT - Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH, DE- Berlin
Project: “Make it right”, US- New Orleans
Judgement of the Jury: The project as part of the reconstruction of New Orleans, which was destroyed by a hurricane, was selected by the jury because it combines a well developed charity idea with ambitioned architecture like no other. Charity can never only be a one-time aid. Charity should inspire hope and be a way of helping people to help themselves. With their two-part project in New Orleans GRAFT achieves exactly this. At the same time, the tent installation has an artistic quality and the provided residential houses combine architectural quality with user acceptance and a high demand on the principles of sustainable building. According to the jury, all this justifies the first prize in this category.
GRAFT also won the 2nd Prize in the Category "Health Care, Interior" for the project KU65 Kids Club.

March 08, 2012 GRAFT solo exhibition is touring through AIT Architektursalons
Hamburg
After the inaugural show in Berlin the GRAFT solo exhibition “DISTINCT AMBIGUITY” will travel to the Architektursalons of AIT with its first stop in Hamburg (08.03.2012 – 19.04.2012). Afterwards further exhibitions are planned in Munich, Cologne and Stuttgart (Germany) as well as in Rotterdam (Netherlands).
Architecture must improve our lives, not just in a functionally or artistically precise way. While searching for quality and beauty, complex shape and ambiguity are part of the essence of architecture that transcends the accurate and the distinct. With the exhibition “Distinct Ambiguity” an extensive portfolio by GRAFT shows aspects and strategies of “grafting”, the associating and connecting of the generally separately perceivable. At the AIT Architektursalon sources of inspiration, plans, concept designs and physical models of buildings and projects are shown in a wide range that reaches from Zero-Energy-Houses in Malaysia to the prototype of Solarkiosk conceived for Africa. Covering not only architecture, but all kinds of design, the exhibition offers a look into the work of one of the most innovative and cutting-edge architectural studios in Germany.

November 11, 2011 GRAFT - DISTINCT AMBIGUITY
The work and methodologies of GRAFT will be featured in the upcoming exhibition ‘GRAFT – DISCTINCT AMBIGUITY’ at the Haus am Waldsee in Berlin Germany from November 23nd 2011 until February 12th, 2012.
The exhibition and accompanying catalogue book try to encourage curiosity. It is an introduction to GRAFT’s thoughts and processes of creation, the ways they see the world and the ways they live in it. It illustrates their landscape of inspirations, and suggests modes of operation that are never separated from the larger context of life. GRAFT transformed the exhibition space of the Haus am Waldsee, Berlin, into a scenario of the 21st century for the duration of winter 2011/2012. The exhibition and catalogue will showcase the full spectrum of associations utilized by GRAFT and will give an introduction of their modus operandi. It will answer such questions as: How is beauty created? Why is narration important for architecture? Why is style the opposite of curiosity? How is ambiguous interestingness created? The exhibition will open November 23, 2011.

ARCHITECTURE IN TIMES OF NEED WINS THE 2010 GOOD DESIGN AWARD
The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies awarded the 2010 GOOD DESIGN Award to ‘Architecture in Times of Need’ in the category Graphics/Identity/Packaging 2010. The book was created by GRAFT in collaboration with the Make It Right Foundation and Kristin Feireiss. It focuses on the redevelopment of New Orleans' vibrant Lower Ninth Ward which was severely devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Invited by the Make It Right Foundation, formed by Brad Pitt and GRAFT, a group of high-profile and influential international architects set about developing affordable, green housing for the area, incorporating the latest in innovative and sustainable design. The projects by David Adjaye, GRAFT, MVRDV, and Shigeru Ban, among others, are shown in numerous photographs and renderings with sketches, building plans, and informative commentary by the architects. Along with an interview with Brad Pitt on his motivation to start the Make It Right Foundation to help in New Orleans' reconstruction, the book also includes essays on the overall design process and describes the sustainable Cradle to Cradle approach, which seeks to maximize economic, ecological, and social value by following principles inspired by nature. Architecture in Times of Need also features the Pink Project, a unique effort that directly connects monetary donations to the assemblage of houses. It brings to fruition an idea based on real needs and real people, and in reaction to a natural disaster, the recurrence of which is all too possible.

A+D CELEBRATE 2010
a grand opening exhibit + celebration
A + D | 6032 Wilshire Blvd | Los Angeles, CA Private Preview: 6PM | Reception + Silent Auction: 7:30PM
GRAFT as part of the 20/20 foundation group has contributed to the new home for the A+D Museum in Los Angeles. In the silent auction a special custom made ‘A+D kit’, designed by GRAFT, can be purchased.
Since 2001, A+D has been a nomadic museum. In 2009, they decided to profoundly change the operating paradigm and create a permanent space centrally located on Museum Row. A stable presence furthers the mission to educate and expose the larger community to the important roles of Architecture and Design in shaping the quality of urban life. On April 27, 2010 A+D Museum is hosting CELEBRATE 2010, a Grand Opening Exhibit and inaugural Fundraising Event to celebrate the newly established home, the 20/20 Foundation Group and A+D Supporters that have made this move possible. The 20/20 is a select group of Los Angeles’ preeminent Architects and Designers whose support of A+D has enabled the move to become a firmly situated cultural institution. They, and other renowned architects, artists, designers, community leaders, and celebrities, as well as LAUSD 5th Graders, are being invited to create seminal works from an ‘A+D Kit’ for a silent auction and exhibit at the Museum.
